Nicodemus, Kansas is a small town located in Graham County, Kansas. It was established in 1877 and is notable for being one of the few remaining western towns founded by African Americans during the Reconstruction period following the Civil War. The town was named after a legendary African prince who had been sold into slavery in the United States.

One unique fact about Nicodemus is that it was a thriving community in the late 19th century, with a population of over 700 residents at its peak. The town had its own businesses, schools, churches, and even a baseball team. However, like many other small towns in the Midwest, Nicodemus began to decline in the early 20th century due to economic hardships and the Great Depression.

Today, Nicodemus is a National Historic Site and is home to a small population of around 30 residents.
