Montezuma, Kansas is a small town located in Gray County with a population of around 966 residents. The town was founded in 1883 and named after the Aztec emperor Montezuma. One unique fact about Montezuma is that it is home to the largest hand-dug well in the state of Kansas. The Big Well, as it is known, was dug in 1887 and is 109 feet deep and 32 feet in diameter.
